Equipment & Dress

COSTUMES

For foundation performances each female dancer will require a plain black t-shirt and black leggings for performances. Hair is to be worn in a high ponytail, half up/half down style. Occasionally makeup may be required for stage lighting.

Once they have soft shoes, junior dancers (Grade 2+) wear black opaque tights (at least 70 denier) and higher grades wear skin coloured tights (at least 70 denier).

Male dancers will require a black or white collared shirt, and black trousers.

The School provides skirts, sashes and dresses. There is a $10 annual costume fee for standard skirts/costume items, $20 per year for Senior dresses. There is also a $50 bond specifically for long term Senior dress hire, refundable when the dancer leaves the school/returns the dress.

SHOES

Soft shoes are required from Grade 2. Dancers below this grade can dance in bare feet. Hard Shoes are available to hire through the School at a cost of $30.00 per year. Once your feet are fully grown dancers are expected to provide their own shoes.

Shoes to be worn only for performances on approved surfaces. Shoes damaged due to neglect will be the financial responsibility of the dancer/family.

Irish pump shoes can be purchased from McPhees Celtic Centre website www.mcphees.co.nz or Trade Me which is a good source for both soft and hard shoes. Please discuss with teachers before purchasing so we can assist with any questions. Experienced dancers can also purchase from ID Bling.
