The Cailin Traditional Irish Dancing School was established in 1995 by Ann Parker.
Recently we have registered as a not for profit, Incorporated Society, continuing the model of operating collectively with parents, teachers and pupils that has been in place for many years. We are also members of the Palmerston North Dance Association (PNDA).
We aim to promote the passion and love of Irish dancing, pass on the tradition and culture, build a supportive community for the dancers and their families and to contribute to community events through performances.
You will often see us peforming at various venues around St Patrick’s day but we frequently participate in events such as PNCC’s Festival of Cultures, the Manawatu Multicultural Society’s ‘World on Stage’ and PNDA’s Dance shows and local competitions. These are valuable and meaningful opportunities for our dancers to gain confidence performing to audiences big and small, while keeping the culture of Irish dance alive.
Our current teachers are Siok Khim Taylor and Rachel Bulford, assisted by senior dancers as well as our visiting teacher Alison who provides choreography and grading support.
In 2007 grade assessments were introduced to the school, there are a total of 13 grades for dancers to work through.
